Ping Desktop is a separate app you install on your computer. It records online meetings without sending a bot into the call, captures step-by-step SOPs, and records video messages.
You do not need Ping Desktop for everything. Meetings, email, and Ask Ping all work in your browser. Install Ping Desktop when you want botless recording or the capture features above.
Check that your computer is supported
- Mac — Apple silicon (M1 or newer) on macOS 12 Monterey or later. Intel Macs are not supported.
- Windows — 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Download the app
- Go to pingassistant.com/get-desktop.
- Select Mac or Windows.
- Open the file your browser downloads and follow the installer.
The Mac build is signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it without a security warning.
- Open Ping Desktop.
- Start sign-in. Your browser opens to the Ping sign-in page.
- Sign in with the same account you use for Ping in the browser.
- Keep the browser page open until it returns you to the desktop app.
If the browser page says to return to Ping Desktop and start sign-in again, go back to the app and repeat these steps.
Grant the permissions the recorder needs
- Open Settings in Ping Desktop.
- Under permissions, select Manage.
- Grant every permission marked as required.
On macOS, Ping Desktop requires Accessibility, Screen Recording, and Microphone access for the full recorder flow. Windows requires Microphone access. Camera access is optional and is used for video capture, not for recording a call.
After you change a permission in your operating system settings, refresh the permissions panel in Ping Desktop so it picks up the change.
Updates
Ping Desktop updates itself. You download the installer once, and later versions install in the background when you open the app.
If the download or install does not work
- Confirm your computer meets the requirements above. An Intel Mac cannot run Ping Desktop.
- Check whether your firm's IT policy blocks installing applications, and ask your IT contact to allow Ping Desktop.
- Open pingassistant.com/get-desktop again and download a fresh copy.
Next steps
- Record online meetings without a bot using Ping Desktop
