Videos in Ping

Videos are recordings you capture or upload, accessed from your Library. You can record your screen, or upload a video you already have. Ping transcribes the video, and generates a summary and chapters from the transcript. You can trim the video, comment on it at a timestamp, link it to a client, and share it inside or outside your firm.

Record a video

Recording captures a screen, window, or browser tab, along with your microphone.

Follow these steps:

  1. In the sidebar, click Library. To record into a specific folder, open that folder first.
  2. Click Record screen.
  3. To show your camera in the corner of the recording, turn on Include webcam and allow camera access.
  4. Click Start Recording, then choose the screen, window, or tab to share. When you share a tab or a window, select Share audio so the audio from that source is recorded.
  5. Wait for the three second countdown, then present.

While you record, the sidebar shows the elapsed time and three controls: Pause, Stop, and a trash icon that discards the recording.

Keep the Ping tab open until the recording finishes uploading. The video uploads while you record, so closing the tab interrupts it. If the upload falls behind, Ping shows a warning and then catches up on its own.

When you click Stop, the sidebar shows Ready and a View recording button that opens the video.

Recording requires at least one audio source. If you deny microphone access and the shared source has no audio, the recording does not start.

Upload a video

Follow these steps:

  1. In the sidebar, click Library. To upload into a specific folder, open that folder first.
  2. Click Upload, then click Choose an MP4 file.
  3. Select your file and click Upload.

Uploads must meet these requirements:

If your file is in another format, such as MOV or WebM, re-export it as MP4 and upload it again.

The dialog reports each stage: Uploading, Checking the file, then Preparing your video. Processing continues after you close the dialog, and the video appears in your library when it finishes.

Edit a video

Editing removes sections from the video and from the transcript. The original is kept, so you can undo an edit later.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open the video in your Library, then click Edit video.
  2. Drag across the timeline to select a range, then click Delete to remove it. Click Restore to put a removed range back.
  3. To cut the video at the playhead, click Split.
  4. To remove long pauses, click Trim silences. Use the threshold control below the transcript to set how long a pause has to be.
  5. To remove words such as "um" and "uh", click Remove filler words.
  6. Click Apply, then click Apply edit to confirm.

You can also select text in the transcript pane to select the matching range on the timeline.

Your edits save as you make them, and viewers keep seeing the original until you apply the edit. Playback in the editor skips removed ranges, so you can preview the result first.

In the confirmation dialog, select Rebuild the notes to regenerate the summary and chapters from the edited transcript. This replaces any summary or chapter text you edited by hand, so leave it clear if you want to keep those changes.

To reverse an applied edit, open the editor and click Undo edit. This restores the original video and transcript, and keeps your cuts so you can adjust them and apply again.

Add a summary, chapters, and comments

On the Video page you can:

  • Rename the Video by clicking its title.
  • Click Generate to create a summary and chapters from the transcript. Both sections have an edit button, so you can revise the text.
  • Add comments in the Comments tab. A comment records the current playback position, and clicking the comment seeks the video to that point.
  • Link the Video to a client by clicking the client pill under the title.

Share a video

Click Share to open the sharing options.

  • Add team members: select members of your firm, then click Share.
  • General access: choose Restricted for you and the people you add, Client for anyone in your firm with access to the linked client, or Organization for everyone in your firm. Client becomes available after you link the video to a client.
  • Copy link: creates a public link that anyone can open, with no Ping account required.
  • Copy video at M:SS: the same link, opening at the current playback position.
  • Copy embed code: an HTML snippet for a page or a document.
  • Revoke link: turns off the public link.

A public link works regardless of the general access setting, so revoke the link when you no longer want the video viewable outside your firm.

Troubleshooting

Tips for best results

  • Link the video to a client to keep it with that client's other work.
  • Trim silences before you share, to keep the video short.
  • Revoke the public link once a video no longer needs to be viewable outside your firm.
