To record online meetings without a bot, you need to use the Ping Desktop app, botless recording is not available in the browser version of Ping. Download and install Ping Desktop, then sign in to get started.

Ping Desktop records the meeting directly from your computer, so no meeting bot needs to join the call.

Use botless recording when you want a personal meeting experience. A Ping Notetaker bot may be a better fit when several people from your firm attend the same call. One bot creates a single shared recording, while several desktop recorders can create separate recordings.

Before you start

  1. Download and install Ping Desktop, then sign in.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Under permissions, select Manage.
  4. Grant every permission marked as required.

On macOS, Ping Desktop requires Accessibility, Screen Recording, and Microphone access for the full recorder flow. Windows requires Microphone access. Optional camera access is used for video capture, not a botless call recording.

Make sure everyone in the meeting knows the call is being recorded.

Turn on meeting detection

  1. Open Settings in Ping Desktop.
  2. Turn on Automatically detect meetings.
  3. Join an online meeting in the meeting app or browser.

When Ping detects the meeting, it appears under Calls.

Start recording

  1. Open Calls.
  2. Find the detected meeting.
  3. Select Start recording.

Ping may show Record anyway instead. The message explains why automatic recording was excluded:

  • A Ping Notetaker bot is already scheduled to record the meeting.
  • Recording was turned off for that meeting.
  • Automatic recording is turned off in Ping.
  • Another meeting rule prevented automatic recording.

Read the reason before overriding it. Recording a meeting that already has a scheduled bot can create duplicate meeting records.

During the meeting

Ping Desktop shows:

  • The recording or paused state.
  • The meeting title and elapsed time.
  • A live speaker-attributed transcript.
  • Pause, Resume, and Stop controls.

Pausing stops new capture until you resume. Select Stop when the meeting ends.

After the meeting

Ping uploads the recording and creates the meeting artifacts in Ping. Processing can include the meeting record, recording, transcript, and notes.

Keep Ping Desktop open while the initial upload is in progress. When the meeting is ready, use Open in Ping to review it.

If Ping does not detect the meeting

  • Confirm Automatically detect meetings is on.
  • Open Settings > Permissions and resolve any required permission.
  • Refresh the permissions panel after changing an operating-system setting.
  • Confirm the meeting window is open and the call has started.
  • Check whether the meeting was dismissed or excluded by a recording rule.
