Linking a Slack channel to a client lets Ping capture that channel's conversations and feed them into the client's memory. Once a channel is linked, Ping reads new messages as they are posted and uses them to enrich client intelligence, so context from Slack shows up alongside meetings and emails for that client.

What You Get

Once a channel is linked to a client, Ping will:

  • Capture new messages posted in the channel from the moment it is linked.
  • Add them to the client's memory, so the conversations inform client intelligence and AI answers.
  • Resolve who is talking, matching message authors to your Ping users and the client's contacts when possible.

A client can have multiple Slack channels linked to it.

Before You Start

You need:

  1. The Ping Slack app installed for your workspace. If your workspace is not connected yet, install the Ping Slack app first, then come back to link channels.
  2. The Owner or Manager role in Ping. Only owners and managers can link or unlink Slack channels for a client. If you do not see the Link channel button, ask your admin.

Public vs. Private Channels

Public channels appear in the picker automatically. When you link one, the Ping bot joins it and starts capturing messages right away.

Private channels are different. Slack does not show a private channel to Ping until the Ping Assistant bot is already a member. So for a private channel you must add the bot first, using either method in Slack:

  • From the channel's Integrations tab — open the channel, click the channel name to open its settings, go to the Integrations tab, choose Add apps, and add Ping Assistant.
  • With a slash command — in the channel, run /invite @Ping Assistant.

Once the bot is in the channel, the private channel will appear in the link picker and you can link it like any other channel.

How to Connect a Channel to a Client

  1. (Private channels only) In Slack, add the bot to the channel — either through the channel's Integrations tab (Add apps > Ping Assistant) or by running /invite @Ping Assistant in the channel.
  2. In Ping, open the client you want to link a channel to.
  3. Click the Integrations tab.
  4. Find the Slack channels card and click Link channel.
  5. In the Link a Slack channel dialog, search for and select the channel you want.
  6. Click to link it. Ping begins capturing messages from that channel.

How to Unlink a Channel

  1. Open the client and go to the Integrations tab.
  2. In the Slack channels card, find the channel you want to remove.
  3. Click the X on the channel.

Ping stops ingesting messages from that channel immediately and the Ping bot leaves the channel. Messages already captured remain part of the client's memory. You can re-link the channel later.

Good to Know

Forward-only ingestion.

Ping captures messages posted after a channel is linked. It does not backfill or import the channel's earlier history.

One channel links to one client.

A given Slack channel can be linked to a single client at a time. A client, however, can have many channels linked to it.

Private channels must add the bot first.

A private channel will not appear in the picker until Ping Assistant is a member — add it from the channel's Integrations tab or run /invite @Ping Assistant. Public channels appear without any invite.

Archived channels cannot be linked.

If a channel is archived in Slack, it will not be available to link.

You may be asked to reconnect Slack.

If your workspace connection is missing the permissions needed for channel ingestion, Ping will prompt you to reconnect Slack from settings before you can link channels.

Troubleshooting

I do not see the Link channel button

  • Confirm you are on the client's Integrations tab.
  • Confirm you have the Owner or Manager role. Channel linking is limited to admins.

My private channel is not showing in the picker

Slack only shows private channels to Ping after the Ping Assistant bot has joined them. Add the bot from the channel's Integrations tab (Add apps > Ping Assistant) or run /invite @Ping Assistant in the channel, then reopen the Link a Slack channel picker — the channel will now appear.

The picker says my Slack workspace is not connected

Install the Ping Slack app for your workspace first, then return to the client and link channels.

Ping says the channel is already linked

Each Slack channel can only be linked to one client at a time. Unlink it from the other client first, or link a different channel.

Ping is asking me to reconnect Slack

Ping needs additional Slack permissions to enable channel ingestion. Reconnect Slack from Settings > Integrations, then try linking again.
